- The site is laid out like a family tree with the Home Page at the top.
The icon with the little Elie cottage at the top left always takes you
to the Home Page. Note that ‘Social’ also covers Sports and Leisure and
‘Location’ has maps, directions, photos and lots more.
- The ‘?’ invokes this help screen. Clicking on an underlined text takes
you to that area of interest.
- The ‘area’ buttons take you to the relevant area of interest (that
area’s local Home Page).
- The Index allows you to look up a particular web page on the site (there
are over 150 pages altogether). (Index to be completed!)
- On many pages (as on this one), there are additional buttons at the top
right. If the pages are part of a sequence, you will see ‘Next’ or
‘Prior’ (or both). On other pages the text on the button will change to
something more relevant to your current position within the site -
usually allowing you to view a number of different pages within the same
group (such as houses for rent).
|
|

|
- You may find it easier to view the slides by reducing the size of your
toolbar - this saves you having to repeatedly scroll to view the entire
page. In Microsoft Explorer, click on ‘Full Screen’ towards the right
hand end of the standard toolbar or use the commands in the ‘View’ menu.
In Netscape, use the commands in the ‘View’ menu to “Hide” toolbars. The
pages are sized to fit the ‘full screen’ view with a screen resolution
of 640x480.
- The site comprises of 100 or so “commercial” pages - paid for by local
people/entities, displaying their ‘wares’. In addition (in the “Social”
and “Location” areas) there will be a further 100 or so pages relating
to the history of the area, a photographic ‘tour’ of the area, a
calendar of events and many other interesting local topics. These pages
are continually developing (we have only just launched this site) and
will be of interest to the ‘new visitor’ and the ‘local’ alike. As much
as anything else, we hope these ‘community’ pages will prove a real
attraction to visitors and will also be a resource for local people.

- First - the nearest airport is EDINBURGH, although GLASGOW or PRESTWICK
are both within quite easy reach also. The “Location” section on the top
buttons provides driving directions.
- Second - we drive on the left side of the road. Enquire about your
driving license and whether you are allowed to drive here with your
existing licence - you may require an international license! Note that
when you actually start driving (if you haven’t driven on the left
before), then the thing that needs most attention is when you turn
corners - it’s VERY easy to end up on the wrong side!
- Third - the power supply is 220 volt, 50 Hz. If you are bringing voltage
OR frequency sensitive equipment - make sure ahead of time that it won’t
suffer harm! Bring or purchase some plug converters - british plugs are
different from most others. If you are planning on a self-catering
accommodation, you should enquire whether electrical items are available
(this can vary)!
- Fourth - you can order groceries, newspapers etc. ahead of time - browse
the shopping section and see what you might want. Anything you order
will be ready for your arrival.
